A weekend in the Charlie Van

Image
We had another lovely weekend in Yorkshire this weekend. This time we stayed in the  Charlie Van  at Phil and Tammy’s. We had a really lovely chilled time - it was really needed despite our time off last week. I think I found last week having time off work more stressful than it was worth for the time I had off - perhaps it was not taking the full week off I’m not sure but the couple of days at the beginning of the week before I was off and most of last week was just a nightmare really trying to get caught up. We arrived Friday night to a lovely supper from a lady who’s started a Supper Club in the village. She delivered our dinner (some southern fried chicken and home made salads) to our friend house in Friday afternoon and it was still warm when we arrived to eat it. I wasn’t sure I was going to feel very full afterwards given that it was just salad with the chicken but I was absolutely stuffed. I even gave a chicken leg to Adam to eat and still couldn’t manage the pudding that eveni

Off roading and a walk in the woods

Last weekend we went out for a lovely walk through the woods and a bit of off-roading on the way. Adam looked for some pretty countryside not too far from us and found an exciting looking road to try the truck out on as well. It looked fairly narrow with a little bit of grass growing up the middle in places but not too bad. When we got there it looked more like this. Considerably narrower than we were thought - possibly made worse by the width of the truck over the tiny little google maps car... And yes, we were still on the “road” at this point. That’s more than just a little grass growing up the middle. There were some pretty good potholes as well going on (if you can call them that) That was really exciting. I loved it! Not sure how keen Adam was when we got half way down it and it started to get worse and worse but we made it through. He was pleased with the state of the tyres when we got out! Sadly the road wasn’t quite wide enough for us to park on the edge of the road to go for

Visiting the parents

Image
Last week we went away for a few days to see my parents. I was really excited to see them as I hadn’t seen them this year. It was lovely to see them again. We had a great time catching up with them. We arrived on Tuesday evening to a wonderful pie and nice evening chatting with them. On Wednesday we went out for a drive to find some quiet places to go and explore (& because Adam wanted to play in the truck). We stopped on this lovely moor road to admire the heather and the cotton grass. What an incredible view - so open and empty but also so interesting with all the different colours and the sky feeling so close you should be able to touch it. Adam wanted to have a go at Chimney Bank in the truck (an extremely steep hill) testing out the 4x4 so we had another little stop off on the way back as well to admire the arches and of course say hi to the locals! We had great fun exploring and enjoying the fresh air so were starving by the time we got back (it didn’t help that the cafe we t

A picnic by a viaduct

Image
Yesterday we went out for a picnic. We decided to go for a drive and find a nice spot to have it away from people as much as possible so Adam had a google and found Welland Viaduct. It looked really impressive and we were sure that we would find somewhere nice to sit for our picnic when we got there. I took us the scenic route to get there which ended up taking over an hour but we went through some really lovely villages and saw some really impressive houses along the way. It did make us think that we would love to live somewhere smaller and more in the countryside. One day we will. We found Welland Viaduct very impressive and there was a a very convenient sheep field with a footpath running through it just opposite a lay-by that we managed to park in. We parked up right underneath one of the 82 arches. And then ventured into the field to make camp for our picnic. This was the perfect spot. Complete with happy looking sheep running around. Even the view away from the viaduct was absolu
