Off roading and a walk in the woods

Last weekend we went out for a lovely walk through the woods and a bit of off-roading on the way.

Adam looked for some pretty countryside not too far from us and found an exciting looking road to try the truck out on as well. It looked fairly narrow with a little bit of grass growing up the middle in places but not too bad. When we got there it looked more like this.
Considerably narrower than we were thought - possibly made worse by the width of the truck over the tiny little google maps car...
And yes, we were still on the “road” at this point. That’s more than just a little grass growing up the middle. There were some pretty good potholes as well going on (if you can call them that)

That was really exciting. I loved it! Not sure how keen Adam was when we got half way down it and it started to get worse and worse but we made it through. He was pleased with the state of the tyres when we got out!
Sadly the road wasn’t quite wide enough for us to park on the edge of the road to go for our walk so we made a loop back on ourselves a little bit and found a big lay-by/car park on the edge of some woods. We parked up there and went for a little wander down this lovely woodland path.

There were some incredible views through the trees.
And I really wanted to duck off the main path through here to find out where it went but we bottled it and stuck to the main route this time.
We found an old beacon (once we’d battled through the narrow slippery path of nettles to get to it!)
We had a little break for a cuppa as we were getting to the end of the woods.
And then slowly plodded back down the track we had just walked down and onto the road to take us back to where we parked. The return leg wasn’t the most exciting so perhaps we should plan a route better before we go out next time but we had some pretty bits on our journey.

This tree was huge and such pretty bark on it too.
A lovely selection of wildflowers. I love seeing all of the different colours around and about.
Some even came complete with butterflies.
Having said that the road back still felt very long!
But right at the end there was a field of cows and goats to have a bit of a chat to.
We had a really lovely time out. It was really great to get out into nature for a couple of hours. So peaceful and beautiful and actually not all that far from home too. We’ll definitely be heading out this way again soon.

In total our whole loop was about 4.75 miles. I don’t think that’s too bad considering it’s pretty much the first time we’ve moved since the start of lockdown in March!!
