Coast to Coast for Lesley Fawkes

It was a while ago that it was suggested that I try to take on the coast to coast walk. I suggested it to my friend (when we had both had a fair amount to drink) and considering I agreed to do the most stupid thing I’ve ever done in my life for her in 2018, she agreed to do this with me.

This was 2018’s challenge:
Bungee jumping off the Middlesbrough transporter bridge. Caroline went first
 Closely followed by me
We both said that it was absolutely horrendous and definitely never to be repeated!

So this year the coast to coast walk feels a much more sensible option. Although a lot longer and requiring a lot more prep!

Caroline has done most of the organising so far which I am hugely grateful for. She has got us some hoodies for each of us to wear - and I have to say it’s the softest most comfortable hoodie I think I have ever owned too!
We did one little training walk together in the summer to see if we didn’t get insanely lost and could survive in each other’s company for a couple of hours without the distraction of anyone else or of the pub.
 I managed to not loose Caroline in the jungle
 We climbed mountains...
 And traversed great seas
 It was a really pretty walk
 
And we both made it to the end with smiling faces

 we had a good couple of hours out exploring together so we planned our route
And started to get ourselves ready with all the kit we need to go with - although I’m sure my hubby’s enjoying that bit a little too much and is thinking I’m some sort of trekking donkey not a person going out for a few day walks!
We’ve also been out for a test of my new backpack and trousers together in the summer too. We are planning on doing a lot more of these together through the summer - he’s going to help me do my training.
We even tested out the little camping stove that I got for making a brew. It worked well and is dead easy to do too.

A week last Friday I was sick of the rain and sick of not being able to get outside at lunch times so on my way home from work I decided to stop off for a walk at my local country park. The park happens to be very close to my hubby’s work so I persuaded him to skive off a few minutes early and join me for a wander. I had a few minutes on my own and went to find a few clues for a nearby geocache so that we can hopefully find it the next time our niece is up to see us then we went for a walk around the lake and through the surrounding paths. The grass (& bits of the paths) were pretty puddle-y so we had to stick to the more solid paths and try to avoid as many puddles as we could. We were both straight from work so we didn’t have our walking boots with us or anything. We both turned into big kids when we got near the conker trees as there were so many conkers that had fallen. A weekend in the Charlie Van

We had another lovely weekend in Yorkshire this weekend. This time we stayed in the  Charlie Van  at Phil and Tammy’s. We had a really lovely chilled time - it was really needed despite our time off last week. I think I found last week having time off work more stressful than it was worth for the time I had off - perhaps it was not taking the full week off I’m not sure but the couple of days at the beginning of the week before I was off and most of last week was just a nightmare really trying to get caught up. We arrived Friday night to a lovely supper from a lady who’s started a Supper Club in the village. She delivered our dinner (some southern fried chicken and home made salads) to our friend house in Friday afternoon and it was still warm when we arrived to eat it. I wasn’t sure I was going to feel very full afterwards given that it was just salad with the chicken but I was absolutely stuffed. Test painting for a future idea

I had an idea for something I wanted to do with a tiny little canvas that I have but before I get into that completely I wanted to do a bit of a test run. I cut out a heart shaped template from paper and tried a couple of different ways of trying to paint the template. I attached it to the front of a card blank that I had - I thought I may as well end up with something out of it even if it is only a test piece. We only have acrylic paint at home and I wanted to try a drizzling or flicking technique to fill in the template so I watered down some paint and started to flick it at the hole in the template. I started off with light pink and then gradually turned it darker and continued to flick at the heart hoping to fill the whole area with paint... I think I should have used card or definitely something more waterproof for the stencil as this is the hot mess that came out! Definitely not a success. Moving swiftly on to plan B... The watering down of the paint didn’t see
