A walk in the woods

Today has been a beautiful day and I enjoyed getting out so much at the weekend that I decided this evening to go for a dog walk with my friend.

We wandered away from the houses and around a lovely field full of buttercups and grasses
It was really great to see her and lovely to get out into nature a bit too.
We also went into the local woods too and found lots of pretty things on our trails.
Kids had also put some lovely painted rocks around and about too - here’s a few that we found.

Can you see this one on the tree stump? Someone was brave to battle the thorns and nettles and put it there!
There are some really lovely things around. These just made me smile. There were also some signs which were really nice and somehow make you feel really special just walking past and reading them. They had lovely messages on saying things like “you are loved”, “you are special” etc.
Finally we did find the best of all the treasures - it’s the Gruffalo’s hole.
We had to do a couple of laps around the woods as just as we were about to leave and set off home again it started to rain. After our second lap we braved it back towards home and can’t have been more than a few hundred metres from the edge of the woods when the heavens opened and it absolutely chucked it down. We were both absolutely soaked! By the time I got home I looked like a drowned rat but had had a really lovely time. It’s great to be starting to see people again. I didn’t realise how much I’d actually missed it.

Fruity food prep morning

This morning (well afternoon but not long after if got up) we decided to have a good fruit preservative and food prep session. We had ended up with a couple of bunches of bananas that we hadn’t eaten and were starting to get to be almost too ripe so we started off by chopping them in half (skins on) and putting them into bags in the freezer. Apparently they freeze ok and we thought in halves we could then grab one or two out at a time and have a bit of a frozen banana lollipop type thing. Hopefully they’ll work. Apparently the skins go black but the actual banana should be ok. We’ll see. Next we moved onto the apples. We had got a couple of bags of “desert apples” which came on an order we had a managed to get from Morrison’s earlier in the week but when they arrived they were a little bit battered and bruised (I guess they’d been under another bag in the van before they arrived). That’s Life - on the farm

The latest jigsaw was one called That’s Life. It’s a farm scene. I began with the edge and the obvious bits that joined to it (as well as the hunting out the rest of the red pieces). I then continued with the rest of the pieces that seemed to fit into what I already had. Because there was so much detail in this picture it was good to be able to pick through the pieces and work out what should be where. I didn’t even lay the pieces out at all until I got to the point above. Then I lay out the remaining pieces on one of the small boards that I have with the puzzle board that I use. I thought I was done...soo close but there was one piece missing! It was a brand new puzzle when I got it, sealed and everything so there can’t be any missing. Found it! It had gone under the sofa. Good puzzle to do with the amount of detail in it. Not a brand or anything that I have heard of but as this one was a gift from my colleague at work I think I will keep it - the box is a sensible size...

Decoupage canvas and painting

This is what the test painting the other day has lead to... I found a tiny little canvas in a drawer - I think I received it in a kit at some point - and decided that I wanted to have a go at doing a little bit of painting. I didn’t want to paint directly onto the canvas so I thought I would decoupage it with newspaper before painting on it - no idea where that idea came from! Ooh - I was doing some other decoupage which you’ll see later and that’s what made me decide to do this. Anyway here goes. I decoupaged some newspaper onto a tiny canvas that I had.  Cut out a template for the paint to go inside Tried using blue tac in the back of the stencil to stick this to my canvas.  This didn’t work so I then went for tac on the canvas itself.  And I was all set up ready to paint  I went for the same tactic as on my favourite test piece - painting inwards from the outside of the stencil being careful not to let any of the paint seep underneath this time...
