My first patchwork

It was a long time ago that I started working on some patchwork with the idea of making a quilt for myself or actually when it started it was going to be a cushion cover for a bench seat I was going to have in my craft room before I stole the big spare room for my craft room!

I found my partially sewn together squares at the beginning of lockdown and decided now would be a good time to get the patchwork finished up and actually attempt to turn it into my first quilt (as it will no longer going to be a seat cover).

These were the pieces that were not yet attached together at all so I started by sewing these into strips

Then sewed the strips together
to make a sections of the quilt top
I had one strip already done from when I had started this a couple of years ago - 2 more to work on.
Then attached each of the two strips together.
To make this part of the quilt top
Finally I had one more section to add
I followed the same process with this part - sewed the squares into strips then attached each of the strips together.

The final patchwork top ended up looking like this.
I’m really pleased with the way that it’s turned out.

I’ll write a second blog post showing my progress with the next stages of making this into a quilt. I’m not finished yet but have done a little more after this point. Next post to follow in the next couple of days. Hope you’re all having a good weekend.
