Birthday present!

My birthday present from Adam and a couple of people who sent me Amazon vouchers arrived yesterday (Thank you Aunty Sarah, Uncle Martin, John, Eleanor, Mark, Kelly, Sophie and Iris!) I absolutely love it!

It arrived in a huge box unassembled but it didn’t take too long to put it together.
We had to put the feet on first followed by the back, and wings on the sides of the back too.
Ta dah!
It’s so comfy and fits at my desk perfectly too. It’s just the right height to be able to use my sewing machine. I love it! I can’t wait for the weekend to spend more time up there and chill out sewing and reading in my new chair. It will also fit loads better too when we sort out the room properly and get a new bed for in there that doesn’t take up the whole floor space. It is quite big in there for now and doesn’t allow much room to manoeuvre really. Eventually the master plan will come together. I’m pleased that we are very lucky to have been able to save up a fair bit so far through lockdown (other than having to get a new washing machine!) so hopefully it won’t be too long before we can afford to  get it done.

That’s Life - on the farm

The latest jigsaw was one called That’s Life. It’s a farm scene. I began with the edge and the obvious bits that joined to it (as well as the hunting out the rest of the red pieces). I then continued with the rest of the pieces that seemed to fit into what I already had. Because there was so much detail in this picture it was good to be able to pick through the pieces and work out what should be where. I didn’t even lay the pieces out at all until I got to the point above. Then I lay out the remaining pieces on one of the small boards that I have with the puzzle board that I use. I thought I was done...soo close but there was one piece missing! It was a brand new puzzle when I got it, sealed and everything so there can’t be any missing. Found it! It had gone under the sofa. Good puzzle to do with the amount of detail in it. Not a brand or anything that I have heard of but as this one was a gift from my colleague at work I think I will keep it - the box is a sensible size...

Decoupage canvas and painting

This is what the test painting the other day has lead to... I found a tiny little canvas in a drawer - I think I received it in a kit at some point - and decided that I wanted to have a go at doing a little bit of painting. I didn’t want to paint directly onto the canvas so I thought I would decoupage it with newspaper before painting on it - no idea where that idea came from! Ooh - I was doing some other decoupage which you’ll see later and that’s what made me decide to do this. Anyway here goes. I decoupaged some newspaper onto a tiny canvas that I had.  Cut out a template for the paint to go inside Tried using blue tac in the back of the stencil to stick this to my canvas.  This didn’t work so I then went for tac on the canvas itself.  And I was all set up ready to paint  I went for the same tactic as on my favourite test piece - painting inwards from the outside of the stencil being careful not to let any of the paint seep underneath this time...

Finished tapestry

This has to be a pretty huge accomplishment as it’s been in the pipeline for a VERY long while. This is a tapestry I got and started when I was a kid - maybe my mum can remember when exactly - but the date on the fabric says 1998. I’m sure it can only have been a few years after that maximum that I started it. This has been sat around in my craft room doing nothing since we moved into our house about 8 years ago and just getting in the way. I finally picked it up as this lockdown is all about finishing things that have been started. This is all I could see of it for years. I started off working on the sky a little bit as I knew the bottom bit would be a bit fiddly with loads of different colours in little patches. Look at the difference in colour where I have just finished bits of the sky. It’s most obvious on the half white/half cream cloud at the bottom!
