Lockdown birthday

Thursday was my birthday. It’s always one of those days I look forward to far too much and then doesn’t ever quite work out how I plan for it to. This one was certainly a different one being in lockdown and all that. There was no option to see any friends in the evening but the one massive plus was that although I had to work during the day, I did get to open my cards and prezzies at lunch time with a glass of fizz.

I got the huge bag of haribo gummies from Adam, a board game from the friends we play board games with a lot and from my friend from work I got two Lego minifigs, some Lego chocolates and a keyring.
 All the gummies! 3kilos of them. They’re so pretty!
I do have a weakness for jelly sweets though - I just can’t stop eating them when I start to the point of often making myself feel slightly ill. I need to be good and ration myself!

A little bit after lunch time I got some flowers and chocolates arrive from my mum and dad.
I never get flowers so it was a real treat. They’re prettier today as well now that they’ve come out a bit more.

Adam also got me a Disney plus subscription for the year - in with our friends sharing it so the evening consisted of my favourite pizza takeaway
And Moana on Disney plus.
It turned into a really good evening also with calls from my mates that gave me the gifts as well as family to wish me happy birthday.

I have to say it was a slightly weird birthday but not a bad one really. I wouldn’t have changed too much even if we could have gone out.

Quilting my first patchwork

Once I had basted my patchwork next was time to actually start sewing it together and quilting it. This was the slightly scary part. I ordered a new foot for my sewing machine as it was recommended to use a walking foot as it should in theory pull all of the layers through evenly. Fitting it was exciting! Not as easy as you’d think but I managed it eventually after struggling with the screw to attach it.  I then had to test out this foot on a spare bit of fabric. I adjusted the tension of the thread down to 1 to make the stitches even and both threads cross over in the middle of the fabric. Then to start sewing up the seams of my quilt as per  this  tutorial video by Melanie  It was nerve wracking making the first few stitches. I wanted to get it right. Coast to Coast for Lesley Fawkes

It was a while ago that it was suggested that I try to take on the coast to coast walk. I suggested it to my friend (when we had both had a fair amount to drink) and considering I agreed to do the most stupid thing I’ve ever done in my life for her in 2018, she agreed to do this with me. This was 2018’s challenge: Bungee jumping off the Middlesbrough transporter bridge. Caroline went first  Closely followed by me We both said that it was absolutely horrendous and definitely never to be repeated! So this year the coast to coast walk feels a much more sensible option. Although a lot longer and requiring a lot more prep! Caroline has done most of the organising so far which I am hugely grateful for. She has got us some hoodies for each of us to wear - and I have to say it’s the softest most comfortable hoodie I think I have ever owned too! Christmas jigsaw escape game

This is one that I got for Christmas and completed a couple of weeks ago with some help from my friend. It was actually really tricky. A bit like a wasgij the picture on the box didn’t match the picture you were trying to create. The idea is that once you’ve made up the jigsaw there will also be 8 challenges hidden within the jigsaw that you have to solve - in this case to find the cure to your illness and escape the witches room. Here’s the box  As normal obviously I started by trying to put the edge pieces together but even that in itself wasn’t very successful. I tried and tried and I think I still ended up with about 3 pieces I just couldn’t get to fit anywhere and I couldn’t see what if anything I’d done wrong so I started working on the middle instead.
