Lego diner

The last few weekends we’ve had some time at home - it’s very strange having so many weekends where we have no particular plans but I really love it. By the time I’ve got to a weekend at the minute I’ve been so tired that all I’ve needed is some good sleep and time to chill on the sofa or do things at home that we’ve been wanting to do.

A few weeks ago we decided to go out and buy a new Lego set. It’s the diner. We’ve been saying all last year that we weren’t going to get it as we didn’t think it looked as good as the other sets we had done before and thought it was smaller than some of the others and more money too so it wasn’t worth it. We then watched some videos on YouTube and we kind of changed our minds. As much as we’d poo-pooed it before it still looked like it had a lot of cool features and little bits that we hadn’t realised were in there before.

We started building it a couple of weeks ago and have tried to spread out the build by doing just 1 or 2 bags per weekend but this weekend we have managed to get it done.

Yesterday was the day for a big tidy up and today was the day that the build was completed.

As we went along we have watched a few films as we always try to watch something that matches up with what we are building. A couple of weeks ago to start the build we watched all 3 back to the future films as one of those was based in the 50s and has scenes in an American diner. Last weekend we watched grease as we couldn’t find any films to go with the boxing gym. This weekend for the final layer which is the recording studio on the top floor we watched Coyote Ugly and that’s about the girl making her singing career and recording her first album. It’s my favourite film of all time but I didn’t even have to suggest it - Adam suggested it and of course I wasn’t going to complain.

Here it is - the big box
The instructions were to start with the bottom floor (the car comes at the end)
Bag 1 made the inside of the diner with the chairs and tables and little accessories
I love the way the sign is built - it was fun to do and I think it looks really effective.
The first floor is a boxing gym with a couple of weight racks, water machine, boxing ring and a punch bag too.

Build coming along nicely.
The top floor is a recording studio. I think the whole build comes together nicely.
Finally the roof was added to complete the building.
The final thing to complete the set was the lovely pink Cadillac.
It was a really fun set to make - we really enjoyed it and it actually fits in a lot better in our street than we thought it would.

We’ve still got 2 more sets to build that we got just after Christmas so I will share with you an update of how the street is looking later on when one of these has been added perhaps.
