Giving tree

Wow! I have been rubbish at keeping up with these pre-Xmas blogs.

Here’s one that I really wanted to share with you still though as I think it’s lovely.

This year at work instead of taking part in the usual secret Santa where you always get a present you don’t want and have to buy for someone you don’t know, I decided to take part in the giving tree.

Some people found a local charity that issued us with some gift tags to hang on a Christmas tree in our break out room and on each one was the name of a child (made up for safety), their age and a gift that they really wanted for Christmas.

Now I don’t know how real these tags were and if they have actually come from children at a refuge in Nottingham or if they were generic and didn’t actually relate to any specific children but I like to believe that they were real and only the names had been changed.

I chose these two tags from the tree
I couldn’t resist the Lego one as I love Lego so much (you’ll see when I share more posts with you throughout this year - I’ve just bought a LOT of Lego to work on) and the other one just made me feel so sad I had to get it.

For the girl who wanted Lego I actually found it quite difficult to find a set that was suitable for her age group for a girl. All of the Lego friends sets which are the girly ones said they were older kids or were really quite expensive. I found an Olaf from frozen which said it was suitable for someone 6+ so hopefully she will have been ok with this.

For the rattle I set Adam on the challenge and he got really excited finding all sorts of cool things on Amazon. We eventually settle on a cuddly, rustley, rattley thing that was shaped like a fox. It was really cute!

I’ve been thinking about these quite a lot since I donated them. I just really hope that these kids got what they asked for for Christmas and that they had a nice day under such tough circumstances. I’ve found it quite humbling and thought provoking to do something like this at such a special time of the year.
