Happy Halloween!

I know it was last week that was Halloween but I’ve only just got around to writing this. The night before we had a lovely evening cooking outside on the fire and hollowing our my pumpkin.

We made this stew with dumplings and a beer gravy inside before lighting the fire
Then took it outside with us and I sat and hollowed out the pumpkin while it was cooking
Not a huge Jeff (pumpkin) this year but we still made him have a good face none the less.
I took him to work with me for our first pumpkin carving competition and he won! I was very pleased with that and the chocolates are still going strong around my team at work.
Dinner also turned out really tasty too. Although slightly too beer-y this one. The one we did before with the wine in was better. I hadn’t really had dumplings much before not being a hugely stew-y person but they were good too.

On Halloween itself, I got back from work (with the prize winning Jeff!) to find my hubby decorating the house and garden ready for the trick-or-treaters. There were glow sticks all around the fence, transfers on the door and of course a special place for Jeff too. It looked pretty good, especially when it had got dark.
We had a good evening with plenty of kids coming to visit for the sweets we had got. Happy Halloween all!

Coast to Coast for Lesley Fawkes

It was a while ago that it was suggested that I try to take on the coast to coast walk. I suggested it to my friend (when we had both had a fair amount to drink) and considering I agreed to do the most stupid thing I’ve ever done in my life for her in 2018, she agreed to do this with me. This was 2018’s challenge: Bungee jumping off the Middlesbrough transporter bridge. Caroline went first  Closely followed by me We both said that it was absolutely horrendous and definitely never to be repeated! So this year the coast to coast walk feels a much more sensible option. Although a lot longer and requiring a lot more prep! Caroline has done most of the organising so far which I am hugely grateful for. She has got us some hoodies for each of us to wear - and I have to say it’s the softest most comfortable hoodie I think I have ever owned too! That’s Life - on the farm

The latest jigsaw was one called That’s Life. It’s a farm scene. I began with the edge and the obvious bits that joined to it (as well as the hunting out the rest of the red pieces). I then continued with the rest of the pieces that seemed to fit into what I already had. Because there was so much detail in this picture it was good to be able to pick through the pieces and work out what should be where. I didn’t even lay the pieces out at all until I got to the point above. Then I lay out the remaining pieces on one of the small boards that I have with the puzzle board that I use. I thought I was done...soo close but there was one piece missing! It was a brand new puzzle when I got it, sealed and everything so there can’t be any missing. Found it! It had gone under the sofa. Good puzzle to do with the amount of detail in it. Not a brand or anything that I have heard of but as this one was a gift from my colleague at work I think I will keep it - the box is a sensible size...

Decoupage canvas and painting

This is what the test painting the other day has lead to... I found a tiny little canvas in a drawer - I think I received it in a kit at some point - and decided that I wanted to have a go at doing a little bit of painting. I didn’t want to paint directly onto the canvas so I thought I would decoupage it with newspaper before painting on it - no idea where that idea came from! Ooh - I was doing some other decoupage which you’ll see later and that’s what made me decide to do this. Anyway here goes. I decoupaged some newspaper onto a tiny canvas that I had.  Cut out a template for the paint to go inside Tried using blue tac in the back of the stencil to stick this to my canvas.  This didn’t work so I then went for tac on the canvas itself.  And I was all set up ready to paint  I went for the same tactic as on my favourite test piece - painting inwards from the outside of the stencil being careful not to let any of the paint seep underneath this time...
