A weekend away - November

Last weekend we went back up to the Yorkshire Moors again to our favourite little place.

The piggies had well and truly gone now - the field felt very empty although the landlord and landlady of the pub have now got a few new chickens to keep the field a little lively still.

The weather wasn’t very good again last weekend - there was quite a lot of rain so we didn’t get to do much walking like I wanted to. We did get out in the car on Saturday though and went for a drive out to the Yorkshire cycle hub. It’s got a fantastic little cafe and they do amazing cakes! You don’t have to be into bikes at all to visit although I’m sure it’s a good base to start a bike ride from too.
We had a slice of the ginger cake which we shared while we were there with the coffee and got chocolate. I have to say the hot chocolate is lovely - it’s always just the right temperature to drink once you’ve eaten a few of the marshmallows off the top and mixed in the remaining cream. They even put a few marshmallows under the cream so they melt in perfectly when you come to drink it.

The big slice of cake was ginger cake which was amazing but we were far too full after we’d eaten that to have the Mars slice as well - we took that home and had it one night last week for pudding after dinner.

Once we had stuffed ourselves on the cake we went out for a bit of a longer drive to the coast. I wanted to go for a wander on a beach and see the sea but it started raining. We stopped at a wholesale farm shop type thing which was really weird and great for us as it’s not like anything we had seen before. They also had a spider outside for Halloween!
There were some awesome view on the drive too.
We didn’t make it down onto a beach as by the time we got there it had started to rain  so we sat in the car park at Sandsend and watched the sea from the car as is a traditional British holiday tradition.
We randomly bought a couple of carrots when we were at the farm shop as they looked really fresh and nice when we were in there. After all the cake I fancied something a little healthy to make me feel a bit better. There guys appreciated the ends on our way back to our cottage too!
The Beck was really high when we got back. Impressive water going through. Our normal rock that we sit on in the summer when it’s really low couldn’t be seen at all, we definitely couldn’t have made it to the middle to sit on it this time.
I didn’t get very far with the jigsaw that we started last time we were here this time despite the rain this afternoon meaning that we stayed in until the pub opened again in the evening. We finished the castle when we got in from the pub late on Friday evening.
The rest of the picture is all trees, mountains and sky though so that would be tricky. It’s not so much fun when it’s that hard so this is as far as I got.

Sunday we revisited an antique shop - it’s a really cool place that has so much to look at - there’s new things every time we go and it takes at least 2 laps of the shop before you even think you’ve had chance to look at everything.

I got a couple of toffee hammers which I’ve decided to start collecting and my hubby got a weird axe. We stopped in on our way back on the Saturday and looked at them originally but then went back to buy them on the Sunday. We also got one of those weird shoe making metal things too. I don’t have pictures of everything at the minute but this is the weird axe that my hubby got.
It has these strange things on the side of this that would have been on springs. Apparently it’s an American design and is designed for splitting wood
We had another lovely weekend away. It was very chilled - I caught up on a lot of sleep which was awesome and we saw a lot of our mates too, especially on the Sunday when the bar was closed and we had a lock in to participate in “sup up Sunday” - the landlord and landlady are going away for a fortnight and closed after the Sunday evening so they wanted all the fresh stuff like beer etc to be gone before they left. It was a great afternoon with some lovely people.
